amenditman Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Got a chance to be the hero for a new client, just don't remember ever doing this before.Problem : Previous computer 'repair' tech lost the purchased retail MS Office with discs and COA for 3 installs. The software is only installed on two computers.Question : Is it possible to retrieve the COA from one of the installations which they use? Then I can use it to install on the third computer. And then for an easy one.Question : Is there a good Linux live cd tool which is designed for scanning a Windows installation including the registry and system files for virus/spyware/rootkits.I've tried ClamAV with disappointing results and am looking for a better tool. Can't really get all excited about any of the Windows based tools I've tried either. If no, I plan to install Avast and run a boot time scan then follow up with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. Downside is the amount of time needed. Do you have alternative suggestions? Thanks for your help!Bob Quote
striker Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Question2:Avira Antivir Rescue System (free) The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available. http://www.avira.com/en/support/support_downloads.html Quote
