Mark Russinovich - Advanced Malware Cleaning Video at Microsoft TechNet

(A web page displaying the slide show used in the video.)

Mark Russinovich spends an hour and twelve minutes discussing (and showing using real malware) how to detect and manually remove malware (including root kits) using tools like -

  • ProcessExplorer
  • AutoRuns
  • RootkitRevealer
  • Process Monitor / Filemon / Regmon

I saw a link to the above in one of my RSS feeds - SuperSite for Windows Mailbag: February 21, 2010The video dates from sometime in 2006 but is still highly relevant. This video is so good, the normal superlatives fall short.Five of a possible four stars!

Must you be a member of Technet to be able to see the video? I don't know if I can't see it because a) I'm not a member of Technet b ) I'm in linux c) I'm using FF instead of IE. before I start firing up other computers to pinpoint the problem, I figured I'd ask if I had to be a member.

Thanks Urmas. I do have Silverlight installed on one XP computer so if I want to stream NetFlix movies I can. Netflix now requires it. I was holding off but when I can't do something I want, then I install. As far as the Moonlight mono, from reading about that, it doesn't work all that well so I have yet to install something that might not work.

Mark Russinovich is a security icon!
That's why I really wanted to watch this. I've used his apps since before he was hired by MS. Edited by zlim
