deschreiber
Something weird started happening to my video quite a while ago. I can live with it, but I'd like to understand it and even fix it if possible. Now and again my video goes kaflooey, forcing me to do a reboot. I believe it all began near the time I changed my monitor. How to describe what happens? It often begins gradually, affecting only the onscreen text, which becomes unreadable, as if someone took an eraser and lightly rubbed it over the text - something is left but it's unreadable. When it happens gradually, it begins by affecting only "Windows" text, that is, the text that appears in dialogue boxes, the title bar at the top of the screen, in Windows Explorer the right pane only. After time, everything finally gets scrambled, not only text. Sometimes everything goes at once. There's no consistent trigger that I can find. Somewhat rarely, launching a program does it. Now here's an interesting phenomenon. I've discovered that if I run a video clip in Windows Media Player, everything returns to normal. Once I discovered that, I placed a shortcut to a video clip in the bottom left corner of my screen, so that when things start to go sour, I press WindowsKey-M to shrink all open windows, then click blindly on the spot where the shortcut should be, and the video gets restored.I've tried finding an updated driver for my monitor (ASTVision 7u), but there doesn't seem to be one, so I'm using Windows Plug 'N Play default. My guess is that the cause is running low on Windows resources (it rarely happens soon after a session), but I have monitored my resources and I can't see any consistent pattern. This has really got me puzzled. I'd love to know what's going on.
havnblast
What OS are you running? What is your video card? Have you tried updating video card driver? The more information of specs of your computer will help troubleshoot your problem
greengeek
Do you have speakers anywhere near the monitor? If so try moving them further away. I had a monitor with similar symptoms to what you are expieriencing and I found it was caused by the speakers being too close to the monitor.Joy
