GolfProRM
Interesting article... Although MSFT and AOL have been doing this for awhile, VeriSign is taking over.... No more typing in "www.earthfink.net" and getting a generic "page not found" error....http://apnews.myway.com//article/20030915/.../D7TJ2U5O0.html

Peachy
Yep,It's working now. Typoed a couple of sites and came up with the sitefinder.versign.com page. Of course, you could add this little entry to your host file:64.94.110.11 127.0.0.1sitefinder.versign.com 127.0.0.

Prelude76
it should be noted this only works if you misspell a domain name. if you misspell a directory or filename on an existing server, you will get standard or customized 404 Not Found error of that domain. in theory, verisign has a valid point. if MS and AOL try to grab these thru their browsers, why can't they grab it first? a "404 Error" is a bit stupid in the first place. check this out: www.scotttsnewsletter.com see what i mean? if someone mistypes something, not only do they give valid links to existing sites (both point to Scot's site; he was smart enough to register SCOT and SCOTT for most common typos), but they also give you a search engine and a yahoo-style directory search. its good in this way as it helps computer newcomers / horrible spellers by not drowning them in 404 errors.
