msOutLook 2000 problem with sending text files

msOutLook 2000 (version 9.x) is insisting on sending attachments that are text files in a manner such that when non-Outlook clients receive them, the files come in as DAT attachments.how can we get msOutLook 2000 to send attached text files as files (just like it does with zip, doc and others)

yeah, i think so. we don't use Exchange but the client is having that issue. sheesh, how dumb is that.
