jeffw_00 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) My wife runs a small business and is very happy with the Fax SW that came with XP. Except.... She often calls out on her fax line and many people just 'redial' and get the fax machine (which is really just a USR V.92 modem). We'd like the fax driver, when it answers, and before it receives a fax, to play a short outgoing message (if you're trying to call me, try this # instead). THe only inexpensive SW I found that will do this is VkEasyFax, but it has stability issues and no support. I believe FaxTalk's mid-range package (fax AND message management) will do this, but it's $90. Anyone know of a small app that might do this?THanks!/j Edited July 25, 2009 by jeffw_00 Quote
Ed_P Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 How much would it cost to train your wife not to use the fax line?? Can't the phone be disconnected from the fax line? Quote
jeffw_00 Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) No offense taken, but my wife doesn't need to be 'trained' to do anything. She runs a business and makes her outgoing calls on the (lightly-used-for-faxes) fax line so that incoming calls can come in on the main line. Much more convenient than dealing with Call Waiting (which doesn't work very well here, as we're 4.5mi from the CX). Problem is, people tend to call back on the line you call them on. patio Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I believe you will need a voice modem to accomplish this task... Quote
Ed_P Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Problem is, people tend to call back on the line you call them on.I understand, and I agree, I do it all the time rather than write down some number the caller gave and then manually key it in.In that faxes tend to be short usages of a phone line how about switching the fax machine to the "incoming" phone line? Thus freeing the line she uses for calls open. And if Call Waiting is disabled incoming calls during a fax would simply get a busy single and they could call back in a minute or two.Just looking at options that would be easy, and free, to impliment. jeffw_00 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Hi Ed - though I appreciate the thought, we actually have though a lot about methodology and decided this is the problem we want to solve. The Fax # is already plastered on business cards, stationary, etc (she's been in business with the same #s for close to 30yrs), and we like having Call Waiting enabled on the incoming line. Quote
