If i am not mistaken, Ubuntu does not have anything like MCC. Most of these options are located in the Administrative options in the menu. Thanks

In Openoffice, copy/paste is in the Edit menu at the top. Or you can hit ctrl-c for copy and ctrl-p for paste or ctrl-x to cut. Although, I am not for sure if this is what you are asking. Thanks Edited by securitybreach

Well, it does have something called Control Center. Not the same by any means but it is there. The trouble is finding it. You have to click /System/Preferences/Main Menu. Then click /System and three items will show. /Administration /Preferences and /Control Center. The first two already have check marks and show, by default, when you click /System. Put a check mark in the Control Center box and you'll have a third option.

No Control Center in Gnome. You're thinking of KDE, Lew. In Ubuntu, it's like securitybreach says... everything you need is in Menu --> Administration or Menu --> Preferences, if I remember correctly.

Knowing how Colin operates, this may come a day late, a dollar short, but...Gnome Control Center1. Open the Synaptic Package Manager and make sure that "gnome-control-center" is installed (it should be by default):kuvakaappauso.png2. RIGHT click on "Applications Places System". Choose "Edit Menus".kuvakaappaus1.png3. In "Menus box", choose "System". In "Items box", "tick" the "Control Center" item.kuvakaappaus2.png4. There:kuvakaappaus3.pngkuvakaappaus4.png :hysterical:

Wow! Gnome Control Center, huh? You learn something new every day. I apologize for my ignorance when correcting Lew above. I sit corrected by the Gnome GUI Master himself (Urmie). :hysterical:

No. I'm not. Just try doing what I suggested. It is there in Gnome. And you don't have to use Synaptic to get it in Jaunty. I don't know if it was there in earlier releases but it is in the latest.Edit: oops!! Spoke to soon. Missed Eric's later reply. Sorry about that. Edited by lewmur

UrmasThank you so much that was pretty neat ;) Yet one thing Ubuntu does not have in their control center is BROWSE AND CONFIGURE HARDWARE which has a list of all hardware on the left pane and when clicked gives the details in the right pane that can be copy/pasted into a document like this one--->>>SATA Controller Intel - 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA ControllerUSBIntel82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB UHCI 1 2 3 & #4 (4 of them) SMBusIntel - 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) SMBus ControllerHard Drive – ATAHTS541010G9SA00CD/DVDMAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-830SxVideo cardIntel - Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics ControllerSound cardIntel - 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio ControllerProcessorGenuineIntel - Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.86GHzEthernet CardIntel - PRO/Wireless 2915ABG [Calexico2] Network ConnectionBroadcom - NetXtreme BCM5751M Gigabit Ethernet PCI ExpressCheers for YearsColin

You're right. Go to Applications --> System Tools --> Device Manager. B) EDIT: Oops... it's not installed by default. Open Synaptic and install "gnome-device-manager". You might want to install "hardinfo" as well (appears in System --> Preferences --> System Profiler and Benchmark). ;)

Heck Urmas that had to be installed tooUbuntu sure does NOT come as well equipped on first install as MDV or PCLinuxOS B) does itBut please to have found a way to Copy/Paste what is the 4600+Cheers for YearsColin ;)

One of my computers still has Ubuntu 8.04.2 on it. Synaptic told me that gnome-control-center was installed, but there is no menu entry available by default. So I opened terminal and ran locate gnome-control-center, found it, closed Terminal and opened Edit Menu, selected Administration, and hit the Add Item button. I typed in /usr/bin/gnome-control-center and saved. Works like a charm! I never knew that was there, either.on edit: decided to refer to a Ubuntu version that actually exists...

Why go to all that trouble when all you have to do is click /System/Preferences/Main Menu and add a check to the Control Center box?

For whatever reason, it wasn't there. Or I didn't see it there. Or something. It's where it's supposed to be on the Jaunty installation before which I sit now.

Very nice post. If I used Gnome or Ubuntu, it would be very useful. Anyway, I will be passing this along to some of my linux converts who use Ubuntu. Thanks again Edited by securitybreach

Wow- what a great, useful thread! Thanks, guys. :) I installed or enabled several of those Gnomie things above (in Jaunty). In particular, I had gotten used to a Device Manager even in Win98SE, as I remember. It was also in earlier Ubuntu releases by default. I liked that because you could take a close look at all the devices on friend's computers using a live CD session of Ubuntu. So it's nice to at least be able to enable Device Manager on your own installs of Ubuntu- but I sure miss it on the live CD!
