V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I've been using PhotoBucket and ImageShack for quite a few years. I'm currently looking for another backup image host. Securitybreach from the All Things Linux forums suggested ImageBam, but I'm having troubles registering there. It won't accept my username choices.I've found a few other sites that host images, but their allowed limits are pretty minimal. Some look like pretty cheesy sites, too. I'm kinda' reluctant to sign up for a site that doesn't even give you their "About Us" information anywhere on the site. What is your favorite image hosting site? Quote

zlim Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I'm sure you want a free site Eric. But when you get a job, have quite a few pay checks under your belt and can breath easier, have a look at http://www.walagata.com/index.phpIt was free when I first started using the site back in 2005. I've been on the $9.99/year plan since Feb. 2006 and been extremely happy. The site was down once as far as I can remember and to thank his customers, we received 60 days free. Quote

No matter what username I type in, it tells me "Please pick a proper nick name" or some such baloney. I'm not using anything but letters and numbers, no special characters.I'm sure you want a free site Eric. V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 No. I never got to login. It wouldn't let me register. Quote
securitybreach Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 No. I never got to login. It wouldn't let me register. Crappy. I have been registered for awhile now. Registering allows an Album but not much else. I dunno give it a day or so then try again I guess. Still a good image hosting site though. Thanks Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Oh, yeah... I intend to try it again. For sure. Quote

V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Nope. And this is the only place where I use my name as my username. I'm not sure how that happened. Everywhere else I go by "vtel57". Quote
zlim Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Try it without registering and see if it works.I didn't need to register. I uploaded three files. Here's the first oneI browsed and when I had the three files clicked Family and clicked the upload link and I got my pictures and links. Quote
sunrat Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Try http://dropfiles.netIt's not a dedicated image site, you can upload lots of different file types. I've used it for a while and its been very reliable. You may have to make your own thumbnails, but hot linking works fine. Here's one I prepared earlier: Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Dropfiles works, Sunrat. Thanks. Quote
zlim Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) I finally found my long list of free file storage sites. It has over 80 sites listed. I'll edit the list as I go through and try and post down sides. This isn't necessarily for hotlinking, as you said you wanted it as backup storage.1. http://4shared.com/ I've used this and it is good BUT you must login in every 30 days or your files are deleted. I remember I did get an email "reminder" but I didn't login and my images were gone so I decided this wasn't the best option for me.2. http://www.flickr.com/ if you have photos I currently use this. You can share or make your photos private. Downside: you need to create a Yahoo account because yahoo currently owns this.3. http://www.badongo.com/ never used. Inactive files are deleted after 90 days. I'm not sure what constitutes inactive. Edited April 29, 2009 by zlim Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Flickr! WOW! Very cool! I already have a Yahoo account. I didn't even realize I had a free Flickr account w/ email also. NEATO! Thanks, Liz! Quote
sunrat Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Dropfiles works, Sunrat. Thanks. It's simple, basic and fast, that's why I like it. Also been around for quite a while so reliable, and i don't think they delete any files if you're inactive. Good for images or online document storage/sharing.And no ads! Quote
