Tushman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) I've got a nice stack of games that has been waiting to be played because upto Spring of last year, I did not have the money to acquire a new PC. Anyways, I just finished Doom3 and I gotta say I was somewhat disappointed. I remember the reviews when it was first released and much of it was not very flattering. I can see why. For all it's special effects (cut scenes) and high detail, I wasn't all that "into it" in the first 30-60 mins of the game.As the game progressed I became more enthused. (There were a few cool moments). But that ending was a total bore! The final boss at the end looked extremely tough, and yet I found he or IT, was very easy to kill. Anyone have any other opinions of this game?Next up - either Prey or Quake 4. (Quake 4 I hear was a total flop -- perhaps I'll just eBay it). Edited January 27, 2009 by Tushman Quote
Tushman Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 i read and read and read about it some time back, before it came out.saw the sneek video taken by someone in an exclusive press conference.and read about the hardware requirements (new pc...)saw the movie.never bought the game.Doom 3 may not have been a big hit but you're missing out on some really good FPS games. Have you tried F.E.A.R, S.W.A.T., or Fallout? I know you said your rig wasn't powerful enough to run Crysis, but it might run F.E.A.R. decently.belive this, i was a big fps gamer. but no more... maybe when diablo iii comes out.Why not? Quote
Gus K Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 For all it's special effects (cut scenes) and high detail, I wasn't all that "into it"But remember part of the development is for selling the 'Engine' to other companies, hence looking good still makes for a profitable project. I guess you could view it as a commercial of sorts, rather than an engrossing game.If you are into the Quake thing (with it's annoying bunny hopping) try Nexuiz (free online play only). Highly scalable for all levels of hardware.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NexuizKinda weird to see so many guys using female skins though. Quote

I thought the Crytek engine was much more impressive. If you are into the Quake thing (with it's annoying bunny hopping) try Nexuiz (free online play only).I'm really not. I enjoyed the original Quake (who didnt'). Never got to play Quake 2 or 3. I only picked up Quake 4 because it was "cheap".Kinda weird to see so many guys using female skins though. Must be a metrosexual thang. Quote
