I have a Dell Latitude Laptop (purchased in Feb 2008). Windows XP Po. I was last on the laptop about a month or so ago... briefly on a Wireless connection. Today I log on and fnd that somehow it has got a Administator Account - no other accounts attached. ( I do not recall if I did that myself or not.. recovering from surgery right now)- Did try a few possible passwords but no go.I tried to log in Safe Mode but cannot- I get the Log in Prompt there as well. I do not have the Restore CD with me as I am currently in another location. Is tehre a way around this all? There is no ither way around it that I can see. (I'd post on the other forum tut seems that I've forgotten my login ingo and they redecorated....!)Hope I can find a way to get into my laptop- otherwise I brougth it up here for no reason at all. Many thanks!

There are ways to get into a computer if you've forgotten the password but I'm not sure how the forum mods look upon giving free advice of this nature. Since everything here is done online behind a computer screen, it is impossible to verify the ownership of the system. I will give you two options at this point. 1) Take it to a computer shop in your area and ask them to reset the password or crack it. They will charge you a small fee for it. 2) Google for a utility that will do it for you. Some are paid-for and some are free. Since you are unable to log into the current system, you will of course have to download the utility from another computer that has internet access. If one of the moderators gives the approval. I will post the link for the free utility that I have used in the past with success.Barring that, there are no other ways to log into a system if you've forgotten the password (that's of course you know what to do with a Linux boot CD. But that again requires you to have internet access so you can download the ISO. :whistling:).

Hello,Have you tried logging into the Administrator account using no password, i.e. just pressing Enter? If so, did that work?If you press Ctrl + Alt + Del once or twice when the Administrator account login is displayed, are you allowed to enter the credentials for a different account on the computer?Regards,Aryeh Goretsky

Hi All... sorry for the long delay in coming back to reply to this.Goresky's second method was what I ended up doing. I happened upon that when I was fiddling around with it.. and was able to get a second login screen and was able to enter my actual credentials. The odd thing is that even though I set up a password for MY account, the laptop boots right up to windows and bypasses the login screen. I think that was my doing though with Tweak UI... oops... have to check it out. Thanks again all.. and I may look at zlim's link later. My sister's computer problems overshadowed this one. Their issues are still there too...:( I could not find a way to fix them- short of reformatting...
