Look on the manufacturer's website and check to see if there is an update for your chipset driver available. Quote
ziggie Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 chip set drivers............... nice, didn't think of that.I'll be back later tomm. Quote
kkehoe Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Does your printer have a card reader? It's possible that the computer might be looking at it as a boot device. Check your BIOS for settings related to booting from USB and disable them. Also, check to see if there's a newer BIOS version available for your board.Kevin Quote

nlinecomputers Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 If it was attempting to boot off of the printer's drives you should get an error about not boot device found or it ought to skip and move on. I'm thinking a shorted printer or cable. Try replacing the cable with a new one. Quote
ziggie Posted October 23, 2008 Author Posted October 23, 2008 All great things to check, i'll do so tomm when i get home.Thx guys Quote

Ghost devices used to be a problem with Win9.x operating systems, but with the release of XP, it's never been an issue - atleast none that I have encountered in my work. I don't think that's the problem in your case. There is a boot diagnostics utility called BootVis that works with XP. Since you're running Vista, I have a hunch it might not work - but it's worth a shot. You've got nothing to lose at this point.Edit:If the boot vis utility will not install on your system, then enable boot logging in Vista. Press F8 upon system bootup to bring up the OS choices menu. nlinecomputers Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 When it hangs on boot up. At what point does it hang? If you press F8 during boot up you get a menu with on option to boot up with a bootlog. Post the results of that log from your failed bootup. Quote
