Before we answer the question... what are your goals in creating a website. What do you want to do with it?Adam

hi adamit will be for a small local house painting business for a friend of mine to serve the local community. basically a small web presence, business name, description, contact info, etc. i'll be donating my time and limited knowledge as computer/internet consultant. i'm basically the geek friend that explains to my friend how to check his email and run virus scans on his computer. i'll recommend a design company but i'll probably end up being the admin. i wouldn't mind being the admin and i could probably put something decent together. i'm eager to jump into learning situations. probably a pre-designed template would be best rather than any advanced coding. i don't think we need to run our own server so hosting will be needed.here's some of the local competitionhttp://www.painta2.com/http://www.tribblepainting.com/http://www.collegeworks.com/http://www.langspainting.com/something like those would be sufficient. my buddy basically needs to get his own domain and website. something simple.

My current host is http://www.christianwebhost.com . They provide excellent service and good uptime too. I think the basic package (which would be much more than you would ever need) runs 8.95 or so per month, depending on how you pay for it (yearly, monthly, etc.I know one of the owners, and have done business with them for a long time. They provide everything you need to get going. It is not as flashy as some of the big boys, but if you can make up a website in Composer or another integrated package, you should be able to upload easily and be up and running.Adam

thanks guys...it looks to me that this whole registrar/hosting game is fraught with scammers, shysters, squatters, etc. squatting domain names seems to be the big issue. how would someone avoid losing their domain name? which registrar/host is the most trustworthy?i guess the way to play the game is get a sacrificial name to test the water.
