sol4u1
Hi All,I am sure that my Hard Drive is bad and will completely die soon. I worried about how to backup my /home partition. However, on the new Hard Drive I dont want /home partition of same size (present /home size). Can you please tell me how to do thatThanks & RegardsSolomon
V.T. Eric Layton
Hello Solomon.Depending on the amount of data in your /home partition, you can just compress it and save the entire /home onto a DVD. I've done this before. Works like a champ.
Bruno
Yep like Eric says . . burn it to DVD. OR: have both HD's in the computer and use your partition-tool to make larger partitions on the new HD. Then copy over the full content of your present /home to the partition that will be the /home on the new install. Example: # mount /dev/hdb?? /media/hdb??# cp -a /home/* /media/hdb?? ( The -a option keeps permissions and ownership ) Bruno
