The strange thing is that the "libsane641-1.018-7mdv2007.0" we removed earlier is there again . . . . I wonder why that is.can you show me for the rest of the packages:

# rpm -qi hplip# rpm -qi hplip-hpijs# rpm -qi hplip-model-data# rpm -qi libsane1# rpm -qi libsane1-devel# rpm -qi libsane-hpaio1# rpm -qi sane-backends# rpm -qi xsane

Also please show:

# urpmq --list-media

and

# urpmq --list-media --active

With that info I will see what I can come up with . . let me study it overnight and we will pick up from there tomorrow.:hmm: Bruno

Okay Jim . . . after closely looking at the packages you have installed and comparing them to the ones I have installed I see a difference in size in the hplip, hplip-hpijs, sane-backends and xsane. What I think that is happening is that when you go through configuring your printer it takes some files from your DVD's and some from the mirror we added . . and that is why you have a mix if 64 and 32 bits packages. So what we will try today is:1). Remove ( with "rpm -e <package> --nodeps" ) all those sane and hplip packages.2). Go in the MCC and de-activate all sources except the 2007_main-32 and 2007_contrib-32 . . . this way we can only get 32bits packages.3). Re-install the sane and hplip packages.Maybe we will have to look at the /etc/mandriva-release ( also mandrakelinux-release and mandrake-release ) and set it to i586 . . . to make sure your package manager does not complain. Please show "cat /etc/mandriva-release" so I can tell you what to change ( that way you will have a copy on the forum so you can revert back to the original after we are done. )Question: are you game for our little experiment ?So, first step:

# rpm -e hplip --nodeps# rpm -e hplip-hpijs --nodeps # rpm -e hplip-model-data --nodeps# rpm -e libsane1 --nodeps# rpm -e libsane1-devel --nodeps# rpm -e libsane-hpaio1 --nodeps# rpm -e sane-backends --nodeps# rpm -e xsane --nodeps

Hi Bruno,Let's go for it I'm learning all the time as we go through this....I followed your instructions & got the following:-[james@localhost ~]$ suPassword:[root@localhost james]# rpm -e hplip --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e hplip-hpijs --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e hplip-model-data --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e libsane1 --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e libsane1-devel --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e libsane-hpaio1 --nodeps[root@localhost james]# rpm -e sane-backends --nodepswarning: /etc/sane.d/dll.conf saved as /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.rpmsave[root@localhost james]# rpm -e xsane --nodeps[root@localhost james]#Is this what you expected?Jim...

The other ones are symlinks to this file so you only have to change this one.Next do:

Nooooo . . . . this is very mega frustrating ! :w00t: . . . I am slowly running out of options.Okay let us remove the packages again:

# rpm -e hplip --nodeps# rpm -e hplip-hpijs --nodeps# rpm -e hplip-model-data --nodeps# rpm -e libsane1 --nodeps# rpm -e libsane1-devel --nodeps# rpm -e libsane-hpaio1 --nodeps# rpm -e sane-backends --nodeps# rpm -e xsane --nodeps

Then change the /etc/mandriva-release back to what it was before.Next

# urmpi.removemedia 2007_main-32 # urmpi.removemedia 2007_contrib-32

And I will look up the 64 bits sources for Main and Contrib . . . . and put them in my next post.:hysterical: Bruno

I have a 1300 series . . but am not 100% sure it is the scanner or the 64bits distro that is to blame. Basically the 1200 and the 1300 use the same software.Anyway, here is the second part:Add new sources . . . . . Main:
# urpmi.addmedia --wget "2007_main-64" ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrakelinux/official/2007.0/x86_64/media/main/release/ with ./media_info/hdlist.cz

And Contrib:

# urpmi.addmedia --wget "2007_contrib-64" ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrakelinux/official/2007.0/x86_64/media/contrib/release/ with ./media_info/hdlist.cz

# urpmq --list-media active

Should only list the 2 we just added.Next only install the most important

# urpmi hplip# urpmi xsane

Next try the MCC --> add a new printer again . . . . .:w00t: Bruno
