Am test driving Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (LIVE) AM considering an install on HP/DESKY but after ERIC's experiences am a little leary also--->>>Can't seem to find the Windows Partitions or how to configure the sound Yet am game to give it a whirl :( MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH UNTIL 0.93 BIG DADDY ARRIVES TO TRY ALSO B) Cheers for yearsColin

Righty HoWE BE in Ubuntu now on HP n1450a so NOW the FUN :P :( REALLY beginsA little surprised not given an option where grub went and lo and behold Windows partions are onthe desktop and the sound is at 100%And even though I am STILL :D :o :o PALPITATING right now --->>> so far so goodGnome may have to grown on me though :P Cheers for years :D B) Colin :o :w00t:

Hi ColinUbuntu does not use "su" --> password . . . It uses "sudo"For each command you place "sudo" and a dialog will pop up to ask your USER-password !You can set a root password in Ubuntu though . . ( if that makes life easier for you ):

$ sudo passwd

And it will ask you to set a root password.:hysterical: Bruno

Thanks BrunoI had ALSO tried sudo but :thumbsdown: without passwd :hysterical: eh???Well we are now in and :w00t: even managed to install VLC & NVU from NEW repositories I put into synaptic but LOST bitornado somewhere along the waySo we ARE making some progress and even Gnome is growing on meCheers for years :hmm: colin :angry:
