albrtijo
As the setup messages are running on the screen, I am shown with a small window labeled "Choose a Profile" and contains two buttons: "default" and "10.1".This resulted from a failed attempt to add MDV-10.1 to Win XP and MDV free2006.I think I must enter the MBR to remove it. Bruno's "Tips" has instructions for entering the MBR file at the Windows partition, but it calls for a Windows XP startup disk. None came with this computer [there are instructions on creating one (but 7 CDs)], so I'm hoping someone knows an easier way to get rid of the pest.albrtijo
Bruno
You post is somewhat unclear Albrtijo . . . but I think if I see the lilo.conf from your Mandriva 2006 it my get more clear . . . so please show me: # cat /etc/lilo.conf In any case do not try the "enter the MBR" . . . . nor try to remove the MBR . . . . let's just start investigating where the actual problem is rooted ;)Next to the answer on the command above I would also like to know a few trivial things:1). Can you still boot XP ?2). Can you still boot MDV 2006 ?3). Can you still boot MDV 10.1 ?4). What entries does the Lilo bootchooser show ? ( exact names please ) Bruno

Bruno
Hi Albrtijo10.1 is not installed ?? Well in that case it sure is funny it asks you to choose the "default" or "10.1". . . . . striker
I think his lilo.conf got mangled Bruno. Have a look at the first part of his lilo and compare it to the last part of it: they're both the same, trying to boot from sda5.He said 10.1 was not installed, my guess is that would belong to the last entry in his lilo.conf. That would assume the first part of his lilo.conf would indeed belong to 'default' which might be the Mandriva free.Below i splitted up his lilo.conf to be able to have a better look at it. Please see the first part of it and compare it to the last part. They look identical to me, so that's why his lilo is complaining. Lilo just asks what it is supposed to boot, either the first one in lilo.conf or (in this case) the last one.Lilo seems to be confused. default="2612i586up1GB-18"boot=/dev/sdamap=/boot/mapkeytable=/boot/us.kltmenu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bwpromptnowarntimeout=100message=/boot/messageimage=/boot/vmlinuzlabel="linux"root=/dev/sda5initrd=/boot/initrd.imgappend="resume=/dev/sda6 splash=silent"vga=788 image=/boot/vmlinuzlabel="linux-nonfb"root=/dev/sda5initrd=/boot/initrd.imgappend="splash=silent resume=/dev/sda6"other=/dev/sda2label="windows"table=/dev/sdaimage=/boot/vmlinuzlabel="failsafe"root=/dev/sda5initrd=/boot/initrd.imgappend="failsafe splash=silent resume=/dev/sda6" image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-18mdk-i586-up-1GBlabel="2612i586up1GB-18"root=/dev/sda5initrd=/boot/initrd-2.6.12-18mdk-i586-up-1GB.imgappend="resume=/dev/sda6 splash=silent"vga=788 Just my 2 cts.
