Ragnar Paulson
As I user, integrator, and reseller of RAV AntiVirus I was surprised and dismayed to hear that they are being acquired by Microsoft (see here). I tried out RAV for the desktop and found it wanting, that was about a year ago, it may be better now. However we actively resell/bundle RAV for Linux mail servers. It's a nice product, reasonably priced and good value add. Now what. Well looks like Mcaffee won't have the nice banner in hotmail anymore. But what is the future for the desktop? If history is any judge, RAV will be bundled with outlook, outlook express, and exchange. Interfaces will change (rapidly), it will become increasingly more difficult for 3rd party AV to integrate seamlessly with these clients. As for Linux server based AV ... well I don't expect that to given much more than lip service in terms of support. :-( sign me disgruntled,Ragnar Paulson
