linuxdude32
SUSE Linux 10.1 Alpha 2 is ready for testing. New significant changes in 10.1 Alpha 2 since Alpha 1: * New experimental libfontconfig It contains bug which is causing segmentation faults in all KDE and Gnome applications after update/installation. You need to workaround this by calling "fc-cache -f" as root. (#128080) * APT successor SMART is provided in the smart rpm package. It can be used like apt-get using apt or YUM package repositories (all inst-source directories contain YUM meta data) * Update to KDE 3.5 Beta 2 * Update to Gnome 2.11.1 * Update to OpenOffice.org 2.0 RC 3Note: Alpha 2 will be followed by Alpha 3 in four weeks, Alpha 2 is not supported and we advice to not use it on production systems. It has only gone through minimal testing on our side. Please report all bugs according to http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Submit_a_bug This time we have made a tri-arch (i386, x86_64, ppc) ftp tree. We will release next week 10.0 Final with a tri-arch ftp tree as well if no issues are found with this 10.1 Alpha2 tri-arch tree. teacher
I hope they have their servers fixed. They were only running at 68% yesterday. I read where they are having a tough time keeping up with the demand. I am anxious to test that wireless capability to see if it is there or not yet. réjean
Hi all!Can I upgrade to it from Alpha1or should I download all the CDs? If it is the latest then I'll wait a few more releases. Alpha 1 is still working fine btw.
réjean
Never mind! I found this post from Jason awhile back: If 10.1 is working perfectly for you, don't worry about 10.0. Everything in alpha will be ahead of what you get in 10.0. You're ahead of the curve! thumbsup.gifThe only thing is that you'll probably want to download a new alpha release every month. That's the only way you'll get bug and security fixes for it. Then they go beta on January 19, 2006 and there'll be a new release every week. In March, 10.1 final will probably be released. If you don't want to have to do that then you should consider 10.0 final instead. So I guess I'll stick with what I've got for now.
ebrke
I wonder if we'll ever see 10.1 since Novell just announced that they will be laying off 20% of their employees.
teacher
I thought I read it was 10%. They seem to be becoming more streamliend in their products. Hopefully that is why the reduction.

Alpha 1 is still working fine btw.I don't see any deltas available on the download page at opensuse.org or in the email I received so I think you'd have to either download the alpha 2 ISOs entirely or download the netinstall ISO and maybe you could update. I don't really know though. My guess is that they won't do deltas until the beta tests are released.

Unless of course I could figure out how to download the ISOs on a DVD-RW ( which I have ). But as I said before 101. Alpha 1 is good enough for me for now. Maybe when the first beta shows up ( if?) then I'll get it.

The only way I've gotten the 700 MB ones is in packages of 5 at....da, da, dum... The Source. Seems like everybody has one of those stores. Occasionally, I've seen them at Staples, too, but it can be hard to find the 12x speed ones there.
