Hi folks,I am having problem in properly configuring adsl broadband connection on my mandrake linux 10.1. Now the setup in windows is something like this.My nic card has a static ip 192.160.1.100through this nic card i can connect via pppoe to the broadband connection using the given username and password.now in linux i tried to set the things the same way. Only problem is that the connection is intermittent.. i.e it disconnects every 10 secs.. the internet does work when its connected.. .. i was able to download a yahoo page.. so there is no authentication problem... :D only problem is it disconnects too frequently.. does anybody have any clue.. i love broadband.. and i love linux too.. but they seem to hate each other..... :o thanksWinston Robin Lewis

WinstonCan you Try DHCP instead of a static IP...also how are you connected to your ASDL modem...ethernet cable or usb (directly or through a router)and type of modem(vendor)?

Well the adsl modem make is Huawei SmartAX MT880Its connected to my computer via ethernet cable. The modem manual says that since the modems ip is configured to be 192.168.1.1 (255.255.255.0) the computers (nic) ip should in the same subnet. so i have to have a static ip which i set to 192.168.1.100Now the connection does work.. since i could load a few pages. the problem is that connection fails toooooooo frequently.. (every 5 seconds or so..) :hmm: i dont know how to correct this.. please help..

Winston isn't the Huawei SmartAX MT880 a Modem/router? The 192.168.1.1 is the gateway IP and setting it (the router)as DCHP would give IP from the 192.168.1.x pool, the card should be set as dhcp also, anyway..If your MT800 is setup as a router, Linux doesn't care if it's PPOE, it's just a ethernet to it(unless you turned off the router function and went raw PPOE ) otherwise please try the DCHP set-up first(if that doesn't work go back to static...then look at connections and the modem set-up particularly the modem to ISP side..(again unless it's raw PPOE).I'm making a couple of assumptions here1. that is is a modem-cum-router and that you access via a web browser and that you recieved anIP from your ISP and it is bridged..and that it using a the internal dialer rather than softwarebased.2. that out of the box it is DHCP on the router side (did you change this in the modem set-up?)3. That you set your Eth0 as static through MCC.4. Your able to stay attached to your ISP in WINPlus your particular model manual isn't online I'm usuing the 800 but I don't know if they are the same..There appears to be a firmware updatehttp://rapidshare.de/files/1949043/MT880_V...50421.xDSL.htmlBut I'm not sure how valid it isIf i missed anything please correct me...

If it is a router, you might want to log into it (check your manual for instructions on how to do this) via your web browser and check your PPPoE settings in it. Your "stay-alive" setting might be set to only 30 seconds in which case it'll disconnect if there is no activity within that period.
