Bruno
LOL . . . no matter what I try ( 3 times ) . . and clearly state I want RPM . . . it keeps coming up with Mepis ( and Mepis does not use rpm ) . . . Bruno
BarryB
LOL...it keep giving me the distros I already have...does that mean I picked correctly ? ..........Quint...did it run out of room for your list...
Bruno
LOL . . this time I did everything to avoid Mepis as result . . . no one click installation, rpm, no live cd, development packages, etc . . . . and still I get Mepis . . . . What is wrong with this quiz ??Also I tell them it does NOT have to be free . . . . . and it disqualifies Madriva because "only the demo is free" . . . . . . I Guess there is no way to get Mandriva as result Bruno
jaquoval
LOL - no matter what options I choose, it refuses to give me Slack or one of it's offshoots.Must know something...
Bruno
Here is another distro-chooser:http://eedok.voidofmind.com/linux/chooser.htmlLess pretty . . . but MORE honnest Bruno Based on these results we recommend you to try(if you haven't tried it yet):DebianOther tries brought up Mandriva and LFS . . . . So 3 times bingo, see there is a good chooser

ross549
Well, the first one gives me PCLos for my laptop.... right on the money.
teacher
Hmmm. The first one said Gentoo and Slack. The second one said Debian. Runhners up were Knoppix (which I do not like) and Gentoo! Hmmm. Interesting. I guess I should look at Debian???
Guest LilBambi
First time I did it, I said KDE, it said Mephis and SuSE, so I did it again to be any desktop environment and it gave me Mephis and Fedora. It also mentioned Mandriva, however, I said it had to be free, so it said that Mandriva only had a liveCD as free. Then I tried the one Bruno noted and here's the results:here's how the distributions in the database match up to your choices:Distro name Match %Ubuntu 6/11: 54%Mandriva 9/11: 81%Fedora 10/11: 90%MEPIS 6/11: 54%SuSe 9/11: 81%Debian 8/11: 72%Knoppix 7/11: 63%Gentoo 5/11: 45%Slackware 8/11: 72%D*** Small 6/11: 54%Arch 5/11: 45%Vector 7/11: 63%Beatrix 6/11: 54%Ark 7/11: 63%LFS 6/11: 54%EvilEntity 5/11: 45%Note Fedora's got the highest percentage there ... and it's what I use. They were fun ... thanks quint and Bruno! :' />
securitybreach
I took it twice and each time it said Gentoo and Slackware. Which was right on point.I already run Slack (well now a Slack-based Vector 5).I cant wait till Gentoo has their installer up and running . I tried installing Gentoo through the universal installation, but I couldnt get the installation started. Oh well I guess it will be a slack-based distro till gentoo matures. Thanx Edited May 16, 2005 by securitybreach
teacher
I don't know about Gentoo maturing. It is doing pretty well now. However, my reinstall has been held up with missing files on the kernel compilation. I burned a new disk and will try again in a few days hopefully.* Gentoo install discussion continued Here

mvent2
Here is another distro-chooser:http://eedok.voidofmind.com/linux/chooser.htmlLess pretty . . . but MORE honnest ;) BrunoOther tries brought up Mandriva and LFS . . . . So 3 times bingo, see there is a good chooser <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your chooser is good Bruno, it gave me Mandriva which is just what I wanted, though I specifically requested one for an older computer, that is if Mandriva can run on an older computer. o:)Then I took Quint's:Sorry, we were not able to find any matches. Please come back later. Edited May 17, 2005 by mvent2

darkstar
I took both of them and they both said I should be using Debian. Good thing I am using Debian I guess.
securitybreach
I took both of them and they both said I should be using Debian. Good thing I am using Debian I guess. :'( Well they all say Gentoo. So I guess I will eventually install gentoo. I see the installer is not finished yet, and I have problems everytime I try the installation. I figure in a day or two I will attempt it again. Its funny how you can do something at different times and get different results. Does anyone know a good Gentoo installation howto that is not 10 pages?
