    Peng Pod open source tablet

http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2013/02/15/what-about-the-pengpod/ http://shop.pengpod.com/ Neat. So for $160'ish you get the top of the range PengPod with a case and keyboard and 32 Gb of storage. You can use Android or GNU/Linux. Sounds like a winner to me.

    Two Arch os's.

http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/2013/01/everyday-linux-user-review-of-manjaro.html I like the sound of this os and intend giving it a run at some stage. http://manjaro.org/ http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI4MTk There are some brave folk around. Looks an interesting project.
  4. Once again there are reports of a Java zero-day vulnerability being actively exploited in the wild. All versions of Java are impacted, including the most recent release, JRE 7, Update 10. With any version of Java installed on your computer, visiting a malicious link can result in a serious malware infection. Significantly, the exploit is not operating system and, although currently targeting Windows systems, can also run the same code on Mac OS X or Linux. Recommendations in my blog post at Java Zero-Day (Again), Time To Disable/Remove Java

  6. Here's one for a bit of a chuckle. MS warns the Kenya government about security concerns with Linux. Sounds like they are confused about copyright also. Make sure to read the comments. http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000066158&story_title=State-warned-on-ditching-copyrighted-software
  7. On the 28th of September, Slackware Linux Project released Slackware 14. On the 29th of September Debian released Debian 6.0.6 - Squeeze. Visit the websites of these two oldest and, in my opinion, finest GNU/Linux operating systems in existence for more information and the official release announcements. Have fun! http://www.slackware.com/ http://www.debian.org/
  8. IDF: Intel says Clover Trail will not work with Linux - The Inquirer Banks on Microsoft's marketing for x86 tablet sales What happened to OS agnostic hardware, particularly processors and motherboards? We are back to this crap! Again! That is so old hat. It went out with Mandrake 7 Linux. What was what? 12 years ago? Or was it longer since I couldn't afford to upgrade my annoying 'Made for Windows" motherboard/processor for a couple years. I am SOOOO disappointed that Intel is turning back to being like this. They have been moving in the other direction for so long. We finally had been able to sigh relief on hardware coming from Intel as they were really trying hard to be OS agnostic, or so it seemed. Thanks for nothing. Guess it's back to AMD. Sigh...

http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/07/a-new-anti-virus-using-linux-to-wipe.html I do not know how good this will be but the concept and the graphics for the advert tickled me fancy.
  11. Pretty wild Linux project I read about today. From their Intro page Check out the rest of the Introduction page and then the FAQ. Pretty amazing that they have this working at all, let alone to the stage where they can issue it for alpha testing.

    U.S. Navy Using Linux?

Attack of the drones: US Navy picks Linux for its unmanned VTOL aircraft control system By Jason Hidalgo posted Jun 10th 2012 11:56AM Disagreement between passionate Windows and Mac OS diehards have caused many a kerfuffle on the Interwebs. When it comes to the tactical control system of the US Navy's autonomous vertical take-off-and-landing craft, however, the military branch is putting its money on a different operating system. Read the rest of the article --> http://www.engadget....ed-vtol-drones/ ++++++ I'm sorry, but I would prefer that GNU/Linux not be used to kill people.

  19. From InternetNews.com: By Sean Michael Kerner | May 14, 2012 From the 'Mozilla Isn't a Linux Vendor' files: While Mozilla is a leading light in the open source community, every so often I'm reminded that the same isn't always true in the Linux community. There has been an ongoing thread over the course of the last week about Mozilla's lack of initial support for the Web Apps Marketplace on Linux. That's right folks, the same group that is now (rightly) attacking Microsoft over the initial lack of access for browsers on Windows RT, isn't initially supporting Linux for Web Apps. Read the rest of the article HERE.

  21. For years and years now I've been hearing and reading conflicting information regarding viruses and malware threats to the GNU/Linux operating system. I often run across hardcore MS Windows proponents who say that there are threats out there. I see Linux fans saying there are NOT threats of any kind. I see BIG BIZ AV companies that are trying to scare GNU/Linux users into buying their products by exaggerating the threats that are out there. What is the truth? Here are a couple of not-so-definitive articles, but based in fact, I believe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Viruses http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/10/06/linux_vs_windows_viruses/ Does anyone know of any truly definitive source for information regarding this topic? Thanks, ~Eric
  22. Please read and comment on this topic on the original thread located HERE. Thank you! ~Eric Link fixed. It was supposed to point to the thread in Security & Networking. Thanks, Roger.
