alphaomega
I am unable to get Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (Feature update 1803) to install. The update fails to install repeatedly. Error 0xC1900101 Error 0x80070652 Installed Update History Host system information: VM: NO Firmware type: UEFI Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Model : HP Stream 8 Tablet BIOS name : F.07 BIOS version : F.07 BIOS release date : 20141022000000.000000+000 Total memory : 1073741824 Number of physical CPUs : 1 Number of logical CPUs : 4 Processor manufacturer : GenuineIntel Processor name : Intel® Atom™ CPU Z3735G @ 1.33GHz Processor caption : x64 Family 6 Model 55 Stepping 8 Processor architecture : x64 Processor clock : 1329 On a couple of the attempts I kept a backup copy of the following log files: C:\Windows\Panther\NewOs\Panther\setupact.log C:\Windows\Panther\NewOs\Panther\setuperr.log One setuperr.log file has over 180 thousand+ lines. I searched through the logs looking for "error" or "fail" and googled for information. There was the recommendation to delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. And the recommendation to attempt the install from SafeMode. I can only get into SafeMode by using sysinfo and setting the option to boot in safe mode. Any other method does not work without a keyboard and I do not have an OTG cable to test with a USB keyboard. Other recommendations were the same as those outlined on this page: Fix Windows Update Errors 1. On which Windows version did you get the error? Windows 10 Home Version 1709 OS Build 16299.334 2. Note: If you are using Windows 8, you need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 3. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter It reported that the Windows Update Database was corrupt (not fixed). Ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth which successfully completed without errors. Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter again. Potential Windows Update database errors detected (fixed) Ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter again. It again recommended the troubleshoothing step of deleting the updates and downloading them again. Other updates continue to sucdessfully install. 4. Download the most recent Servicing Stack Update (SSU) Downloaded them to manually install. 16299.334 3/22/2018 KB 4089848 (current installed) 16299.371 4/10/2018 KB 4093112 (not applicable to this computer) 16299.402 4/23/2018 KB 4093105 (the updates are being installed / installed) 16299.431 5/08/2018 KB 4103727 (not applicable to this computer) 5. Download the most recent KB 16299.431 5/08/2018 KB 4103727 (not applicable to this computer) 6. Fix Windows file corruption DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth Successfully completed without error. sfc /scannow Successfully completed without error. 7. Perform in place upgrade Downloaded the Media Creation Tool and performed an in place upgrade which also failed. Error 0x800706BA - 0x20003 8. Perform a clean install I have not tried this option. I would have to attempt it from the hard drive because there is no CDROM drive and I'm not sure if the micro usb port suports OTG and even if it did I do not have the necessary tools to test. I'm at a complete loss as to what to try next. Any ideas? Anyone? As far as I can tell all the drivers are up to date and there are no yellow exclamation points in DeviceManager. I hope I covered everything pertinent. For now I have the update hidden using wushowhide.diagcab. Cheers
goretsky
Hello, My initial thought is that the HP Slate8 tablet does not have enough free space to perform the upgrade. I believe the HP Slate 8 supports USB OTG, so using a hub with a USB flash drive + keyboard may all you to perform a clean installation of Windows 10. alphaomega
My initial thought is that the HP Slate8 tablet does not have enough free space to perform the upgrade. I believe the HP Slate 8 supports USB OTG, so using a hub with a USB flash drive + keyboard may all you to perform a clean installation of Windows 10. I also thought the issue was not enough free space and it may be I'm just not so sure. With 1709 about halfway through I got a message about needing to free up some space. I assumed I would get a similar message from 1803 if more space was required. I was chatting with someone from Microsoft support and they had me start/restart several services, reboot, and try upgrading again. It failed as well. I was supposed to connect back with the chat using a link they provided but I could never connect back so I gave up. I have an OTG flash drive and I am going to see if I can use it to perform a new install from. Edit: Unfortunately attempting an install from the OTG Flash drive also fails. Edit: Now I've gone and messed things up worse. I was going through device manager and making sure all the devices had the most up-to-date driver and after a reboot I have no response to touch at the login screen. Touch works when I go into the system tests. Looks like I'm going to need to get an OTG cable in order to attach a keyboard to go any further. goretsky
Hello, I would suggest backing up any data off the HP Slate 8 tablet, then attaching keyboard, mouse, and the USB boot drive via a OTG USB Hub and performing a clean install that way. alphaomega
Forgot I had Teamviewer on the tablet so I am able to get in over the LAN. Now I need to figure out what happened to touch (no yellow exclamation points in device manager). I ordered an OTG USB Hub and am going to try a clean install at that point. Thanks Edit: I reinstalled the Intel chipset drivers and touch is working again. Edited May 19, 2018 by alphaomega
zlim
I ordered an OTG USB Hub I hope it is powered. I use an OTG cable and attach a 4-port powered USB hub to my tablets. I can get USB sticks, a mouse, keyboard, portable hard drive and portable DVD burner recognized.
alphaomega
Update: The OTG cable came in and I did a clean install and I am somewhat back in business. Now I need to let the device charge back up so I can continue. I need to get drivers for some items in Device Manager that now have a yellow exclamation. Touch screen it not working. Mixer icon in the taskbar has a red exclamation on it. And there are no i2c drivers. What a PITA this was.
goretsky
Hello, I think these may be the correct drivers for that system: https://support.hp.com/id-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-stream-8-tablet/7439999 Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

alphaomega
Hello, I think these may be the correct drivers for that system: https://support.hp.c...-tablet/7439999 Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Those are the ones I needed. Thank you. Did you get in touch with HP ? No, the tablet is no longer under warranty. Thanks everyone for the help. The tablet is working again. It's just frustrating that the only option that worked is the very last one from this page: https://support.micr...s-update-errors Each reinstall attempt that failed took so long they could have just copied everything off the hard drive in less time. Next time I'm just going to do a fresh install now that I have an OTG cable. Cheers
