Acer Travelmate 6465WLMi laptop special keys (4) do not work

First of all Mandriva 2008 Free (64bit) detected and set the keyboard layout as 104PC keyboard, which is wrong. The laptop uses a 88key-keyboard. I changed that after the install in KDE Control Center > Regional and Accessibility > Keyboard Layout, to (right pane) 'Enable Keyboard layout' > select Acer laptop > select 'intl' as layout variant. (That's the layout I need, yours of course may vary.)I used the KeyTouch program (not in Mandrivas repos) available from http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/index.phpto set the 4 special Acer buttons at the left side of the power on/off button. Here's a picture of those keys:buttonsetrq4.th.gifYou can use the configfile for an acer4100 supplied with the program. You need to fetch and install these two programs: keyTouch 2.2.4 - Mandriva 2007 RPM (64bit) and keyTouch editor 3.1.1 - Mandriva 2007 RPM (64bit).For the P-button I used the default to start up the KeyTouch program, the E-button starts up Ekiga, the envelope button starts up Sylpheed (my mail client), the planet-button starts up Firefox (my web browser).Refer to the programs documentation to read about the program, howto set it up and install and to configure it at the link above. All 4 buttons work to my likings now. There's one problem ... after a reboot the settings are gone and you have to start from scratch.Edit> see this : http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thr...forum_id=380916for a possible solution. Like I said the program (keytouch) works but it fails to initiate at boot. The above solution might work but I'm not in a position right now to test that. I solved my problem with the below solution, but maybe when 2008 Spring arrives I'll test it again. : ;) So I uninstalled the thing and fiddled with lineak. For a complete howto with an Acer laptop see for example this (dutch): http://ohreally.web-log.nl/acer_vista_mandriva/keys.htmlor the english version:http://ohreally.web-log.nl/acer_vista_mandriva/index.en.html

Found a possible solution to the problem with keytouch not initiating at boot. Posted the solution in my initial post above.
Hallo striker  ,Do you think the KeyTouch program could provide a solution to a problem I've had with the 'search' button on my keyboard ever since moving to mdv 2007 (wasn't a problem in mdv 2006). I first described the problem here :-http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.ph...eyboard+buttonsIt's much the same in 2008, I can select (KDE) Control Centre>>Regional & Accesibility>>Input Actions>>Entrées de l'éditeur de menus (yes it's in French)>>K Menu - Firefox Search.desktop>>Keyboard Shortcut >>Command url>>apply and it works ;) :hysterical: until I reboot :hysterical: :hysterical: After rebooting Alzheimer's disease takes hold of the machine and we're back to the Mandriva/KDE default of Konqueror browser and Google France   It looks as if it should work, but I'm not sure I can safely follow the links to getting KeyTouch to start at boot   .Grogerf

It looks as if it should work, but I'm not sure I can safely follow the links to getting KeyTouch to start at boot ;) :hysterical: .
Just add the command to start KeyTouch at the bottom of the /etc/rc.local file ;):hysterical: Bruno

I still use lineak and got no complaints. But if I were you I would wait for the next version of MDV, otherwise you're possibly going through some headaches again and then there will be the new MDV and you're back at square one.Of course you can try the Keytouch program and as long as you make notes of what you're doing you should be able to reverse what you did. ;)
