* Split off from xorg thread from same poster . . . . . by BrunoAll works perfectly now except for my sound. I have done the usual alsaconf, aumix, alsactl store. I have even compiled the latest alsa. Still no sound through my speakers. I get no errors when running Xine or XMMS. I have also tried changing the mixers in each app because I have found that to help sometimes. Here is my

Hi BreachLooks like it is only using OSS for sound  . . . so in xmms you will have to use the oss-output plugin ;):'( Bruno

I changed it in XMMS and it still doesnt work. I shouldnt have to reboot should I?

Wow! How come everything is root and none of it is user?

That might be some of the problem. But I just tried to play an mp3 and a cdrom as root with no sound.

This type of problem has been driving me nuts here too, and the solution was simple in each case.... in Kmix, under switches, is "External Amplifier" lit? I spent quite a bit of time fiddling before discovering that! :'(

I hope so. I dont think I do without movies and music on my Slackware. Maybe something messed up on the install because my scroll stops working sometimes and I have to logout and log back in not just restart x. My transparent terminals stopped working in Fluxbox too. They are transparet in Gnome and KDE but I cant do without Fluxbox. I dont knowUpdate: The problem with mouse only happens when I exit X and start X again a few times. I find I am not losing it, if I dont keep restarting X.

I still havent found the problem with my audio in my Slackware. I have had a family crisis , so I havent got time to play. But I did notice in Kinfocenter that under audio:

Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA) v1.0.8 emulation code)Kernel: Linux 2.4.29 #6 Thu Jan 10 16:30:37 PST 2005 i686Config Options:0Installed  drivers:Type 10:ALSA emulationCard config:Intel 82801DB-ICH4 with AD1981B at 0xee081000, irq 11Audio devices:0: Intel 82801DB-ICH4 (DUPLEX)Synth devices:NOT ENABLED IN CONFIGMidi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIGTimers:7: system timerMixer:0:Analog Devices AD19811B
Earlier in the post I ran lsmod and it reported oss instead of ALSA. I dont know if this might give someone a clue because I have been searching and playing for quite a while with no luck. I appreciate any help. I need sound! Thanx

Both synth and midiservices do not have to be enabled to have sound Breach . . . . I think we have to keep on searching to know how and why your sound is not working . . . . but seing your other range of problems whith that install I am asking myself if a re-install is not the way forward . . . . I think that is a gopod plan Breach . . . . and remember when you set up the user you will be asked what additional groups you want that user to be part of . . . . tell the installer you want to be part of the wheel and the audio group too :hmm::whistling: Bruno
