Grogerf
Hallo folks ,i've got a Sharp ZQ 520 (known as YO 520 in N America) pocket memeory device which I like because it has non-volotile memory. (I also have a Palm, but it looses it's memory if the battery goes flat :'( ) It uses a serial port to a small 3 contact jack plug to synchronise.I still have the original software for tha Sharp which only ran on Windows. I've also got an updated version of the same software which runs on XP - but can't find anything to run on Mandriva 64 bits or any version of Linux for that matter. How can I use the Sharp with Linux - can anyone tell me? I have been told that it will be very hard to use the software under Wine - not sue on this one either.I'd be grateful for input - especially if someone has got this or a similar Sharp product to run under Linux.Grogerf
Bruno
Hi GrogerI think that the only PDAs from Sharp running Linux firmware are the "Zaurus SL" series . . . . but even those are easier to sync on a Windows computer then on a Linux box. :(Apparently the best supported ( to sync ) are the Palm ones ( but not all types, see the list ! )Link: http://tuxmobil.org/pda_linux.html and for Sharp: http://tuxmobil.org/pda_survey_sharp.html Bruno

Perhaps I should have a go at trying the original software (Win 2000) through Wine - I've got nothing to loose - and could learn a lot What's the best the best way to install Wine on my system (64 bit Mandriva 2007) - should I download the mandriva 2006 rpm (can't see one for 2007) & install that using the installation tool - or would it be better to download a tarball and install from that Looking forward to your reply GrogerfHallo Again Bruno ,I found your post to Randombox on Jan 31 2007, 09:12 AMwhere you mentioned activating the main & contrib sources for wine & xwine. I already had these active, but no wine or xwine :'( So I activated the 32 bit sources and there they were .Now downloaded & installed through the mcc I restored the sources back to the normal situation after doing the installation to avoid possible problems in the future. Thanks again Bruno Grogerf Edited March 5, 2007 by Grogerf
zlim
VMPlayer might work better than WINE.http://www.vmware.com/products/player/I have no idea how you'd install this in linux. (I installed it in Windows and grabbed Debian etch to play with). If someone has tried this in linux, they may be able to help.

Perfect ! You're a quick learner !! ;)As for Wine, since I do not use it myself ( and basically also because I do not like emulators ) I will not be able to help you running it . . . . . . but I think there is enough info on the Wine HQ site: http://winehq.org/ Bruno

My first thought (not progressed yet) was to install the application on the distribution CD using wine to do the installation. Thanks again for your help Grogerf
