havnblast
I use to use Zone Alarm Pro, but ever since I installed XP it was buggy and so I switched to Outpost and never had a problem. Works basically the same way and it has a free version or a paid versionCheck It Out
Scot
I also reviewed Outpost not that long ago ...http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/38.htm#review1I didn't name it a Top Product!, but I did feel it was a pretty good product.I would probably recommend Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.0 or Norton Desktop Firewall 2003 instead -- although both require payment.-- Scot
SonicDragon
I had the same problem. When i installed XP, Zone Alarm got all buggy, so i switched to Sygate Personal Fire Wall and have had no problems with it
Stryder
The latest update to ZA Pro has helped a lot. I was getting frustrated with the time it took to load on a restart, but now it is almost instantaneous.

cwbrowne
I use Outpost Pro (Paid for version) and for a software firewall I'm very pleased with it. For a person not as knowledgeable as most on what is going on behind the scenes, in regard to how information moves on the internet and within a computer itself, I found the Outpost (Agnitum) Forum to be a lifesaver on getting questions answered and feeling confident with the firewall. As to the Forum on Agnitums web-site I think they have made it harder for those looking for it to find it.And I hope you don't mind me saying this Scot (if so please delete) but I have been a subscriber to 'Smart Computing' for about the last two and a half years, and it is the best magazine I have found on any subject. By that I mean it is a magazine that can be looked at years down the road and still be of use. *No, I wasn't paid to type that*
chrisclu
Hi guys. I also use and love Outpost I used to use AtGuard until Symantec took it and bloated it beyond functionality. I was one of the original beta testers for Outpost and a support forum moderator. We are currently beta testing Version 2. It has much better logging, and now works with ICS on W2K (SP 2 and 3) and WinXP.Shouldn't be a very long beta testing period as I have heard of no major problems. As to the support forum it has been re-configured and moved. It is now run by the moderators. Three of the mods have become administrators and the two of us have become super Mods with admin rights. it is now athttp://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/Regards,ChrisBTW Scot, thanks for creating this forum and announcing it in the newsletter. Guest ComputerBob
I first heard of Outpost a year ago. Many of us were excited about it for a long time. A long list of features, and the ability for users to add new features to it. It also had a few known issues that the makers repeatedly promised would be fixed in version 2. If I remember correctly, version 2 was going to be out in June. Then it was going to be out in September. Then it was going to be out in December. I waited and waited, but version 2 never came out. And, according to chrisclu, it's still not out. I'm sure that there are some of the early 2002 Outpost users who are still patiently waiting for version 2, but that long, long (and still counting) delay between versions convinced me that I didn't want to trust the makers of Agnitum for my future firewall needs. havnblast
Gosh, I didn't think it needed updating - works great, but the ICS will be a good thing. No gripes here with outpost yet
chrisclu
Hi Bob,Yeah it was a long time coming. Talking with some of the other testers has not turned up any major problems Two of them have gotten rid of their proxie programs and use ICS now. ( I'm broadband and router so ICS was never an issue for me) I hear Fast user swithching works in XP now. ( doesn't affect me as I don't use XP)Like havnblast, Version 1 was great for me. I do love the new logging though Take care,Chris
