It still uses a license purchased from Microsoft.

That is the part I object to.

I do not want to have to ask anyone's permission to do whatever I want with my stuff.

Paying for that permission, even second hand through the Linux Foundation, is completely unacceptable.

Totally agree, but just because we don't doesn't mean others might (especially those that are not very knowledgeable yet), or maybe even enterprise users.

Yes, of course. But not all people feel comfortable enough with Linux to do that, or to compile their own programs ... yet. They may in time, but not everyone is really comfortable enough to do either or both of those things. So, yeah, it is nice that The Linux Foundation did this for those folks.
