Corrine Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 From BleepingComputer" "Today, the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced a Final Determination prohibiting Kaspersky Lab, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of a Russia-based anti-virus software and cybersecurity company, from directly or indirectly providing anti-virus software and cybersecurity products or services in the United States or to U.S. persons," reads a new announcement from the US BIS agency." The prohibition also applies to Kaspersky Lab, Inc.’s affiliates, subsidiaries and parent companies (together with Kaspersky Lab, Inc., “Kaspersky”)." This ban not only involves the sale of Kaspersky products but also prevents the company from delivering antivirus and security updates to customers, making it critical for customers to provide alternative sofware by the end of September. securitybreach Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Until we have proof of subversion, I am not ok with just banning a company based on country of origin. Otherwise, none of us would be using smartphones. 2 Quote
crp Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 i have mixed feeling about Kaspersky. I trust their research but not their product. This ban strikes me as silly. And crazy. 1 Quote
goretsky Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Hello, It has been an interesting day watching the comments play out about this around the internet. @securitybreach, if knowledge about the subversion was gathered through covert means, like a spy inside the Kremlin, than it may never be shared because doing so would reveal the source of the intelligence. securitybreach Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Of course I wouldn't trust software from our own government either based on what has came out. 1 Quote
