Guest LilBambi
Bruno --Are they learning it so they can actually use use it, or only learning just enough to appear knowledgeable and refute it in the marketplace? After reading this in the article, it seems the answer is all too obvious: But the software giant claimed the training was about enabling consultants to understand other options that Microsoft's customers might be offered and that there was no fixed quota of consultants undergoing the programme. Bruno
Fran:If their so called consultants were even close to being *knowledgeable*, they would have been wise enough to master Linux long ago. Bruno
quint
Bruno and Fran, I think they are planning on the purchase of the Linux kernel.

quint
If the kernel is open source then how can they purchase it?JoyYou're absolutely correct; my mistake. But due to the ever-growing interest in, and applicability of Linux, I'm sure MS would love to have control over it. Sometimes I type before I think. Guest LilBambi
quint --Do you have the news link for that one?I went looking and didn't find anything specific like that. Found something that said that they might run some of their products on Linux but not that they were buying Linux and of course the one listed above by Bruno.http://www.computerworld.com/softwaretopic...l?SKC=ost-74564Humerix.com has some funny things, not true but really comical:http://humorix.org/articles/aug98/microdot.shtmlThought everyone would get a kick out of it ;)Also, it doesn't sound like Linus Torvald is giving up on Linux at all when he refused to allow Linux to be caught up in a political war regarding DRM: "I also don't necessarily like DRM myself, but I still ended up feeling the same: I'm an 'Oppenheimer', and I refuse to play politics with Linux, and I think you can use Linux for whatever you want to - which very much includes things I don't necessarily personally approve of."See the full article here:http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=9160(Not my favorite news source for information, but it was interesting non the less.) Hi, Fran,No, I don't have any specific news link, I was just trying to look a little bit into the future; even though the newspapers (around here) do not report the day-to-day dealings/actions of MS, they have been active indeed. Purchasing gaming companies, software companies, developing languages for Linux implementation, etc., etc. Have always had a pessimistic outlook on "mega-corporations", whether justified or not. Have no proof that MS wants to totally dominate the Internet, Linux, WWW, earth, and if I did, they would have to kill me. Sometimes I just get "carried away" in my projected views on this...sorry. http://www.happypenguin.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=634http://www.aspnews.com/news/weekly/article..._543091,00.htmlhttp://www.macadamian.com/products/sscli/
Guest LilBambi
quint --No need to be sorry ... you are right, if they could they probably would. But just remember, even if they were to acquire one of the Distros, they would not have Linux
greengeek
Right! Like I said before, you can't buy Linux (well not all of it anyway).I really don't want to do my computing in a world with only Window's computers.Joy
