réjean
Hi all! I bought some DVD-RW and I am trying to copy some data from my wife's computer ( she uses Win XP ) onto one of them so that it will be saved in case something happens to her machine. She doesn't have a CD or DVD burner so I have to do it from my computer. I am trying to use brassero but either I get a bunch of empty folders or else nothing. I open brassero, then the file system and drag from her computer into Brassero like this; but in my last attempt after it was supposed to have burned all I got was a checksum.md5 and nothing else. What am I doing wrong? Edited April 16, 2014 by réjean
securitybreach
Does she have a usb port?
securitybreach
Also, how are you accessing her files from your machine.
réjean
Yes she does have a USB port and I am changing my tactic. I created a folder in My Documents and am copying her files there first. Then I'll see if Brassero does a better job burning the data onto the DVD-RW.
réjean
I don't know if Mint uses Dolphin or which file system.
securitybreach
I am confused.. Her computer runs XP and your computer runs LinuxMint so how are you connecting the two.
réjean
They both have a network card and I have a network working.
réjean
I think I'll reboot into PCLinuxOS and see if K3B works better. I have never been really fussy with brasero anyway.
securitybreach
Or just install k3b in Linuxmint..
réjean
Good suggestion. I am in PCLinuxOS now anyway. I just thought this was a good time to practice with brasero. Thanks josh! P.S. K3B went fine. No problemo. Edited April 16, 2014 by réjean
Hedon James
I used to use Brasero, but Brasero has been buggy or outright non-functional on my Ubuntu 12.04 boxes...ALL of them. Brasero worked perfectly in 10.04, but ever since the update to 12.04, Brasero has not worked correctly. I've got 7 machines in my house running Ubuntu 12.04; 2 were upgraded from 10.04, the other 4 were fresh installs. I can only conclude that something has changed within Brasero, or something within Ubuntu 12.04 that Brasero doesn't like. And since Mint is based on Ubuntu, I'm assuming you've inherited this bug also. I've got K3B on my wife's machine and it works like a champ. Probably the swiss army knife of burners. I have Xfburn on my machines, as I prefer the minimalist interface. Xfburn also works like a champ. Ditch Brasero and install K3B or Xfburn. Heck, install 'em both and see which you like better?!
réjean
Am I ever glad to know that I am not the only one having a problem with brasero. I don't think I am that stupid so I was wondering before I started this thread why it wasn't working for me. Thanks Hedon!
