Guest
The U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration will end its formal relationship with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers in late 2015, with ICANN developing a new global governance model, the agency said Friday. V.T. Eric Layton
Hmmm... wonder how this is going to turn out.
Guest LilBambi
Don't know .... but: As a condition of the change, the transition away from the NTIA contract "must have broad community support" from Internet users, governments and companies, Strickling said. The new governance model must "maintain the security, stability and resiliency of the Internet Domain Name System," he added. The new governance model must also maintain the openness of the Internet, Strickling said. The NTIA will not support a governance model that puts control in the hands of governments only, he added. "I want to make clear that we will not accept a proposal that replaces the NTIA role with a government-led or intergovernmental solution," he said. ross549
Open governance is good. Hopefully, ICANN will be open when this change happens. Adam
Guest LilBambi
Agreed! Need open governance and not by governments.

crp
this is not going to turn out well at all unless one member of this new committee becomes the overriding voice and power. Edited March 16, 2014 by crp
goretsky
Hello, There is some precedent for having an international organization in charge of setting standards for communications. I don't think most Americans have any strong feelings (good or bad) about the ITU or UPU, despite their being international treaty organizations. Hopefully, ICANN (or its successor organization) will be similar. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

Guest LilBambi
We bring good things to life. I loved the movie Batteries Not Included. Great part by a guy who accidentally brings the smallest robot baby back to life. But the cutest thing was he never spoke his own words. But had watched TV so much he had a phrase from a commercial or TV show for just about every scenario where he would need to vocally respond to someone.
