Yes, some publishers want us to believe they use DRM to prevent piracy, but typically DRM ends up preventing a buyer from doing what he or she wants with a legitimately owned product.

 

"Our authors and readers have been asking for this for a long time," said president and publisher Tom Doherty. "They’re a technically sophisticated bunch, and DRM is a constant annoyance to them. It prevents them from using legitimately-purchased e-books in perfectly legal ways, like moving them from one kind of e-reader to another."

 

A big "well done" to Macmillan for standing up for freedom and common sense :good2:

Yea!!! So happy to see they are finally wising up! DRM doesn't do anything to the people who can get around it, but it does put a hurtin' on legitimate users who don't know what to do when their purchased item doesn't work as intended, or they can't use it on their other devices or computers.
