ross549
http://soundcloud.com/ross549/the-song-of-the-hard-drive Yeah, I think it might be dead. I had to "CSI Enhance" the recording to make the hard drive sounds come out. Adam
securitybreach
Yup, its dying So what did you use to record the sound? Your phone? You must of used the CSI app. Enhance!

ross549
It's a great mic, and works really well for voice. It also works well for other types of recordings too..... Adam

ross549
Spin Rite is still trying to get past that part on the drive... not sure if it will be able to do so. Adam
frapper
Sounds like a rainy night in Georgia with background crickets. Who made the HD?
crp
is it a SCSI ?
ross549
It is in an HP laptop.... not sure of the make. However, SpinRite got pas the bad part and is crunching through the rest of the drive with no problem. We shall see if it was enough to make Windows bootable..... ross549
SpinRite completed the main "recover data" process. I am now having it go back and refresh the hard drive's surfaces. Naturally, this is taking a bit longer. During the first pass, one chunk of data was found to be "unrecoverable." I am not sure if Vista will boot now, but We shall see. I was getting a "Missing or corrupted NLS data" error on boot before. I've heard stories that SpinRite may have determined that data was unrecoverable, but the drive subsequently worked. We shall see! Adam
ross549
Woke up this morning, and tried to boot the machine back into Windows. No joy. Still getting the "Missing NLS data" error. I t was worth a shot. Adam
