owlman77
I an using XP and have Norton Internet installed on my Dell 8100. Many times ( but not every time) I seek to open a link in a web page it will not render without using the shift key (sometimes even then it will not open). Also some pages will open but will not display anything. Is there anything that can be done to chang this? By the way when I contacted Norton tech support they tried to find the problem but there answer is that it is not Internet Secerity that is causing the problem. Thank you for any help Owlman77
DannySmurf
What browser are you using?--Danny Smurf
Perry
It's a "pop-up stopper" that's causing the problem. If you are running only Norton Internet Security, it's NIS's fault. If you are running Panicware's "Pop-up Stopper" or other blocker, it's to blame. I run both so I have pretty much killed pop-up/under windows. The need to hold "shift" while clicking a link is a small pain. To configure Norton Internet Security, double click the "world" icon in your system tray, highlight "Ad Blocking", and click the yellow "Configure" button. You can then turn off the features. owlman77
Thsnks for the suggestions (I am using IE 6 and Avent Browser),however turnig off Add Blocker in NIS doesn't seem to cure the problem. My main concern is that sometimes even using the shift key will not let me open some pages i.e. Panda Active Scan. Also some pages open but are blank and these seem to have something to do with Java script as that is what shows in the bar at the bottom of the opened page. Guest ThunderRiver
I would like you to try other browser such as Opeara, Mozilla or PhoenixIt is NOT a call for browser switch, but I want to know if it is just the problem with IE or it affects all browser in general.Keep me updated.ThunderRiver
Scot
In addition to ThunderRiver's question, I'd suggest supplying us with this info:1. Have you ever run a download accelerator or broadband accelerator on your PC.2. What type of Internet connection do you have?3. What other major applications do you have installed?4. Can you disable NIS completely and try that.5. Are there specific web pages that have the problem or is it purely random.-- Scot
owlman77
Thanks for all the responces. After installing Opera I can open most links (in Opera only) . The problem is random except certin links i.e. Pandas Active Scan will not open in IE., and some others. I do not have a downloader installed at this time but did in the past. Norton had me disable NIS but it did not help. I am connected by way of cable modom. Owlman77
imranj
Well the problem i would focus on NIS , as NIS isn't as reliable in getting the stuff done.I would say get zonelabs zonealarm, and get either opera ya mozilla for blocking pop-upsdoes the job perfeclty without any hit on browsing needs......
