Lover of quiet computers
I just installed Apple Computer's iTunes 5 under Windows XP Professional today. When I restarted my computer, I noticed ZoneAlarm (my firewall) asking if it should allow "Bonjour Service" to connect to the internet. I understand Bonjour is Apple's implementation of an IETF "Zeroconf protocol". Is this likely the same Bonjour that's trying to access the internet? What would be the consequences of allowing or disallowing it to access the internet? zlim
What it ishttp://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensi...bonjourwin.htmlActually, I usually disallow something that I don't know. Then if I notice something doesn't work, I might allow it BUT I have it ask me everytime until I figure out if it is something that the computer really needs. epp_b
Hmmm...perhaps a French translation program? ...anyway, what zlim said.
Lover of quiet computers
Thanks; I just wanted to make sure the program is what I thought it is.
Guitar Man
It's probably just a little bit of spyware... But at least you bothered to found out that it was indeed a part of the program. I also agree with Liz's thinking about asking permission from the firewall.
Peachy
Bonjour is definitely not spyware; it is Apple's renaming of its Rendevouz 2 protocol, its zeroconf networking protocol. IETF zeroconf is also installed by some Linux distros including Fedora and SUSE. It goes by the name of mDNSResponder.
