I've never really been a Pantera fan (that could be definitely is changing, though). They were just a wee bit over the edge for me. However, that being said, Darrell "Dime Bag" Abbott was an unbelievably awesome guitarist. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time listening to Phil Anselmo's acid-washed screaming vocals. This sort of put me off to Pantera all these years. My recent rabid love for all things Black Label Society has inevitably led me to reconsider Pantera; primarily to experience Dime Bag Darrell and the rest of the instrumentalists in that band. BLS's lead guitarist Zakk Wylde was best friends with Darrell and talks about him in some documentaries I've recently watched. One in particular that I watched last night was about Pantera's start and the tragic shooting of Darrell Abbott onstage during a concert with his new (at the time) band, DamagePlan.
