sunrat
Worst bug ever? Canonical has temporarily pulled the download links for Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" from the Ubuntu website due to ongoing reports of some laptops finding their BIOS corrupted after installing this latest Ubuntu release. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Ubuntu-17.10-BIOS-Corrupter

securitybreach
It sounds like should of done more R&D...... There is no excuse for that to happen.
raymac46
If this driver was in the kernel it should affect more than Ubuntu. It seems rather hardware/BIOS specific. My Lenovo Thinkpad isn't affected as far as I know running Debian Sid Kernel 4.14.
sunrat
It depends on a kernel config setting. I first read about it on Debian User Forum and Debian is not affected: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=135661
