laan97ac
Hi All,I have all codecs installed (w32codecs), yet I get this error message about wvc1 codec not handled. What can I do?
Bruno
wvc1 codec not handled. ?? . . I never heard about a wvc1 codec . . . . What you can try is to install "VLC" ( Video Lan Client ) using your package manager, almost every distro has it. It comes with all codecs by default . . . and it can handle a large amount of formats. Bruno

I have VLC, Totem, Xine, Mplayer and none works despite w32codecs packs and plugins...I read your link Anil, and it seems that there is no linux solution for this so far?Laan Hi Bruno , laan97ac wvc1 codec is window's new format though it has same wmv extension."VLC 0.8.5-Final will not play these videos at all. Bruno
wvc1 codec is window's new format though it has same wmv extension. One of Microsofts new formats again is it ?? Those people are driving me crazy !! :(Anyway, Laan . . . I think that Anil is saying that more recent versions of VLC do play the new file-format . . . . So either check here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/Or for even more recent versions: http://nightlies.videolan.org/ Bruno

Bruno
I see this is for an Xbox game and the trailer is made by Microsoft themselves . . . . I am afraid they made sure that you have to boot Windows ( and maybe even preferably Vista ) to see it . . . :(Maybe just install XP in VirtualBox and play those incompatible files there . . ? laan97ac
I have come across quite a few of these files, and it appears that some people can play them with no problems even in VLC or other typical players so I rest my case in saying that I must be missing something :-)I will keep searching I see this is for an Xbox game and the trailer is made by Microsoft themselves . . . . laan97ac
it bugs me because some people can play that file in linux:http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/sh...ad.php?t=577632I think it is our software, codec/driver config, that is not set up right. And by the way, the video works fine for me in Windows, but I don't want to boot windows all the time :-)
Bruno
You could try to install the latest version of VLC ( vlc-0.8.6c.tar.gz ) because you now have the 0.8.6b . . . . .You can get it here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.6c/Or download a nightly build: http://nightlies.videolan.org/ I am told these do play those files. Here is the very latest: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/source...-20070819-0005/Or you can run Windows virtuallly in Linux . . . and see the video that way.
