saturnian
Getting close to a final release, but it's taken a long time: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=4746
securitybreach
Wow, I didn't even know that the project was still active.
saturnian
Yep, I guess the devs had some personal issues this past year and couldn't get the Stretch-based release out earlier. I think I'll pass on the release candidate, then download the final.
abarbarian
Every time I read the name bunsenlabs a picture of my old school science lab flashes before my eyes. I have only ever used open box when it came with a live distro it appeals to my minimalistic outlook. I'll have to try out bunsenlabs one day.
raymac46
Call me a wimp but I never have gotten comfortable with anything more minimalistic than Xfce. Most hardware I have is powerful enough to run a mainstream DE. The problem with the tiny window managers is that I forget how to manipulate the configuration files and have to re-learn every time I set one up. I suppose I could just get a nice distro and go with the defaults. But Xfce runs fine even on my crappy Toshiba with 2 GB of RAM and an Atom processor. I use Arch there of course.

I am the complete opposite. I have an i7 and 64gb of ram with a high-end Nvidia card and I run minimal environment and applications (i3 with mostly cli apps). The browser is my only real graphical application.
raymac46
That is the beauty of Linux. You can be as minimalistic or quite frankly as bloated as you want to be. Even if you go for all the GUI bells and whistles, you have several ways to do that. Beyond that, most desktop environments have some further degree of customization or extension. Compare that with Windows where even putting in a dark theme can be a challenge. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-is-adding-a-dark-theme-to-windows-10s-file-explorer/ Edited April 24, 2018 by raymac46
