ebrke
This is a quirky, nostalgic look back at early versions of windows. Not technical, but kind of fun to read. I never used 1.0, but 2.0 is definitely a blast from my past. http://www.slate.com/blogs/business_insider/2014/11/11/microsoft_windows_is_now_more_than_30_years_old_here_s_how_drastically_it.html
Guest LilBambi
I owned and actually tried Windows 1.0 ... then waited for Windows 3.0-3.1 and really loved it in 3.1.1 for Workgroups. Thanks for sharing that! Fun reading for sure.
Pete!
I had a copy of Win 1.0 once. I wasn't impressed. It was easier to just work with DOS.
zlim
The earliest Windows I used was 3.11 Windows for Workgroups. I opted not to get Windows on my first computer because I thought it was a passing phase. Now you see why I do not have a career as a fortune teller!
securitybreach
I used to play with my uncle's computer that ran Windows 1.0. At that time, I was still using my Tandy 1000 with MS-DOS 2.11 and DeskMate 1.0
Guest LilBambi
I had a copy of Win 1.0 once. I wasn't impressed. It was easier to just work with DOS. I thought so too, Pete. I even went so far as to use GEM DOS-based UI for Ventura Publisher back in the day. (this was after the CoCo days and was running MS DOS). Guest LilBambi
I used to play with my uncle's computer that ran Windows 1.0. At that time, I was still using my Tandy 1000 with MS-DOS 2.11 and DeskMate 1.0 We were using the CoCo and it ran the wonderful for the time modular OS9 (not to be confused w/Apple's later OS 9), when Windows 1.0 came out. We still have the Install disk somewhere. Funny thing is that it came free with some other program or hardware - mouse or somethng. Yep, Microsoft actually started out giving Windows away till they got it ready for Prime Time. I meant we still have the Install disk for Windows 1.0 here somewhere. Also still can play the CoCo games when we want to in an emulator too. Ah, nostalgia...
