neversink4
I have IE 6.0 service pack 1 and W98. Since I upgraded to 6.0 when I click on the history button I get a folder icon for history and when I click on it it opens a index.dat listing. If I click on the index.dat file it asks me which program I would like to open it with, nothing works. Any suggestions? How can I get a normal, clickable history listing? Montana
This has been suggested as a method to repair corrupt History folders...Boot with a Win98 startup disk (Control_Panel > Add/Remove Programs >Startup Disk)From the A:\> prompt, type the following:c: (to change to drive c: )cd \windows (changing to the Windows directory)smartdrv (loading the DOS disk cache... it'll speed up the deletion)deltree /y tempor~1 (deleting the temporary internet files completely)deltree /y historyRemove the floppy disk from drive A:ctrl-alt-del (restart your computer normally)Windows will rebuild those folders, with fresh, clean index.dat files******************I copied that answer long ago from another PC forum which is now defunct. Unfortunately I neglected to make note of who provided the answer. If you're uncomfortable using DOS, go to www.google.com and do a search on delete index.dat and you will find several utilities that will accomplish the same thing.Let us know if it works. neversink4
Montana, I tried to use the method you posted but when I got to the deltree command, I kept getting a bad command or file name message.
