mhbell
Desktop Linux's Hardware WoesSunday December 18, 2005 (06 PM GMT) By: Sal CangelosoLinux works. This is a very matter-of-fact statement, but it is one many people (myself included) make every day when they boot up their computers. It is not a perfect product, it would not be sensible to expect something as complex as an operating system to be flawless, but fact remains that Linux does work. On the software side of things the open source community has done a very good job of making this clear, but the other half of computing, hardware, this movement has not been as [/url]successful. Every day Linux users encounter driver and compatibility issues which Windows users have not had to deal with for years. mhbell
The link above opens at www.microsoft.com. Sorry about that ElizabethHere is what happened. I tried to link the URL using the link command in the forum and I had copied the url and pasted in the URL Link window. Somehow it got a double (http://http://) in front of the correct url. The second (http://) in the url caused it to default to the Microsoft web site. It is corrected now..Mel
ebrke
I thought it was a dastardly Microsoft conspiracy, but I guess my paranoia was getting the better of me! (actually I looked at the link but didn't spot the extra http://) Good article. Edited December 21, 2005 by ebrke

epp_b
Maybe it is a MS Conspiracy. Why should a double (http://) take us to MS?Hmm...that is strange...ebrke, I see you're a registered Linux user. Did you happen to be using IE in Windows when you clicked that link? Otherwise, this is a truly evil Microsoft plot... Edited December 22, 2005 by epp_b

Is there any doubt that MS controls my computer and not me?

ebrke
I, too, was in SuSE running FF when I was "hijacked" to ms.com. I would not venture out onto the net from windows. Bruno is right--I just tried in Konqueror and got an "error occurred" message. Has MS infiltrated Mozilla??????
