ebrke
Sad news at Ars--full story still to come, but apparently Ian Murdock has committed suicide after some problem with police: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/12/ian-murdock-father-of-debian-dead-at-42/ RIP. amenditman
That is sad news indeed. He was a visionary leader of free software and always did the hard things required to live up to his stated beliefs. Terrible loss!
sunrat
RIP to Debian's fearless founder. He was one of the good guys. https://bits.debian.org/2015/12/mourning-ian-murdock.html
securitybreach
I was just reading his tweets yesterday about getting beat by the police. This is a shocker for sure.
V.T. Eric Layton
Copied from a posting I just made on G+: To me, this man was much more of a visionary and innovator than Steve Jobs ever was. As a Slackware devotee, I salute Mr. Murdock. Debian GNU/Linux will always have a special place in my heart (and is often found on partitions somewhere on my systems). This is a great loss to GNU/Linux; and the Debian community in particular. Requiescat in pace.
sunrat
A tribute and some interesting history from Debian website. Also has an email link so you can personally send a message to his family - https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160105
Capt.Crow
Methinks it is very strange that persons who spread the word of peace seem to be assasinated when they start to get traction among the people. I would love to read your ideas on this . One sad Capn

Ian Murdock was not assassinated and AFAIK his police encounters were not related to his professional life.
