crp
smacks of being a stupid shock value ploy to me.

Robert
No different than when Darth Vader says he is Luke's father. It made absolutely no sense, destroyed the story to the foundation, and if true recreated Obi-Wan Kenobi as a horrible villain.

That reveal is amazing and considered a touchstone in film history for excellent reasons. What does utterly ruin it is the final Darth Vadar scene of episode3, which if you watch the sereis in the order of 1-6 would make the situation in episode5 absurd. Either way, it does not recreated ObiWan.
Robert
When I was watching it in the theatre my first thought was, "Ben was a liar?" From that moment Star Wars was never the same to me. It was followed years later with scenes like when Anikin tells Padme he felt bad because he massacred a village of men, women, and children, yes he killed all the children, and her response is, well, everyone has a bad day now and then. I didn't care for her after that. They all became horrible characters. The Skywalker family is no better than the Tellers on Sons of Anarchy. I would not be surprised if Luke went on a mass murder spree, but now that Disney bought the rights they might not go full Lucas with his character. The difference is, you knew the Tellers were bad guys from the start. Star Wars turned the saints into murderers and enablers. Guest LilBambi
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I may not happen to agree with Robert's opinion, but wouldn't deny him the right to his own opinion, nor would I want to imply someone gets it or doesn't get it because they don't agree. We are all friends here and that is much more important than implying our own opinion is the right or only one. Carry on!
