Corrine
Firefox 60 to Show Sponsored Content for US Users Mozilla announced this week plans to show sponsored content to US users starting with the release of Firefox 60. The sponsored content will appear as suggested stories inside Firefox New Tab page. The stories will be pulled from Pocket's recommendation list. The Mozilla Foundation acquired Pocket (formerly known as Read It Later), a service for managing article reading lists, in February 2017. Mozilla has been testing sponsored content in Firefox Nightly and Beta versions for a few months. Corrine
via zlim at another forum: It does say thisControl. If you see a story you’re not a fan of, you can hide it. Or you can disable sponsored content altogether. Then it points you to this page https://help.getpocket.com/article/1142-firefox-new-tab-recommendations#sponsoredstories
ebrke
I usually ignore the links shown on the New Tab page anyway--I don't think I've ever used one. What may take me away from FF is that it's appreciably slower now, I think since they introduced some of the security features. I've had a couple of incidents where I couldn't get into a bank's website with FF and had to use Chromium, which is significantly faster. sunrat
Glad I'm not in the US then. I've had a couple of incidents where I couldn't get into a bank's website with FF and had to use Chromium, which is significantly faster. I had similar issues with FF57 but they seem to be ironed out by FF59. Mainly extensions like Tampermonkey. It was rewritten for the new extensions API but had to wait for several FF versions to regain it's functionality.

Things may get better with FF when I do. I'm also running a bunch of extensions (NoScript, Ad Block Plus, Better Cookies, Self-Destructing Cookies) which I'm sure isn't helping the situation. zlim
I'm running FF v 59 portable. I want to be prepared when ESR moves up to v 60 in August and v 52 ESR is no longer updated. I've found that Noscript and uBlockOrigin work. I'm trying Clear Flash Cookies which is a possible substitute for Better Privacy (those LSO cookies), And HTTPS Everywhere has the new type extension so I installed that. I haven't tried anything to replace my very old favorite. Cookie Culler, which allows me to go through the cookies and protect certain ones. All the others are removed every time FF fires up. There is no Cookie Culler, Cookie Keeper or Self-Destructing cookies. There is something called Cookie Auto Delete but I don't want an addon that removes all the cookies. It seems like everything I look at is all or nothing. I want to select some to keep. So my search continues.
