wa4chq
Hi all---I've decided to give Ratpoison Window Manager and Ratmenu a try. I must say, it's different but I'm enjoying figuring it out. It's hard to say at this point if it will replace Fluxbox. And now that I have a new/used working printer, it's a perfect excuse to use it....I gotta make a 'Ratpoison' folder!Windy here in S.E. Virginia....70 degs....
securitybreach
Hmmm, remind me of XMonad but with no system bar and different configuration. How is the multi-monitor support? I currently use XMonad but may check out RatPoison. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ratpoison
securitybreach
Of course, the last release was in July 12, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratpoison
wa4chq
update on Ratpoison etc.I'm not sure about multi-monitor use. I don't have two to try. I am having fun with it and 'screen'. I've tried screen in the past but never got the hang of it. The version that came with Slack 13.1 doesn't allow vertical splits though...Since messing with Ratpoison, I started using screen with rat and am getting used to the key strokes. I learned a little about configuring screen to open up with a split screen with mocp at top and xterm in the bottom.....so screen resides in rat, and then in another window I open firefox. I haven't learned how to customize or alias keystrokes yet. That would be great learning that. One issue I had was using something like Gimp and Rat together. Rat runs everything full screen. That's ok for some things, but others it's not. That took a little time getting it to be usable but after some googling I found a script for gimp so it's usable with Rat. I just need to learn how to assign the the command to a key. There was another way to use gimp and rat and that was with Xnest. I just haven't figured out how to start it full screen. Also that seems like a waste of time just to run gimp.....So, I'm having fun and haven't broke anything.....yet!Have a good Wednesday.... securitybreach
update on Ratpoison etc.I'm not sure about multi-monitor use. I don't have two to try.Well I meant three or more monitors since two is easy to configure. So your starting to like GnuScreen? That has to be one of my favorite tools for Linux, hands down. I always have 2-3 Screen sessions over ssh or locally running at all times.
wa4chq
update on Ratpoison etc.I'm not sure about multi-monitor use. I always have 2-3 Screen sessions over ssh or locally running at all times. Just saw this and realized I never replied! Well, I'm not using Ratpoison anymore....using Spectrwm. I just play with this stuff cuz it's fun. I do boat repairs for a living so playing with Linux is just a hobby. So I will switch around my WM's and distro's etc etc.....I always come back to Slack and I always like wm's that don't have all the bells and whistles. Screen was interesting but I never used it the way it was meant to be used. I had read about it and wanted to try it. Then I discovered tmux. I liked it over screen because of the nicer interface. But again, I don't use it the way it was meant to be used. I thought it was cool that you could split screens using either one but now that I'm using a tiling wm I can do that..... for me eye candy is a must! what it can do is second . Recently thanks to buying a RaspberryPi, I've started playing with ssh. I never did any of that before. All sorts of cool things I've learned (for me at least) over the years since someone gave me my first PC back in the mid to late 90's.....

wa4chq
Tanks! But notice that I need to erase the black line that got carried over when I was filling in some white space.... I hate when that happens.....

wa4chq
Looks good....gotta re-do mine, it's a sickness.....
V.T. Eric Layton
Yes, I know all about that sickness. I'm nowhere near the perfectionist I was when I was younger, thankfully.
wa4chq
Perfectionist? Not here. It's more of a "I gotta keep messing with it" thing. Here's an example. We are really slow at work so I am able to sit in the office and play on the computer. There's an empty thumb drive in my laptop bag. I decide to try and revive Archi3 with percistence on it. I spend hours trying to find the article about it on the Archbang forums, no luck but found something something else they were working on only to find it wouldn't boot. That makes things worse. In the end, I put Porteus on it (already did this on another thumbdrive) and it will go in the bag and maybe get used once a year! Hey, I'm having fun. I see a red door and I want it painted black.... Edited December 29, 2016 by wa4chq
V.T. Eric Layton
Ah... so it's perfectionism to the extreme... obsessive/compulsive tweaking. There's no cure for that, you know.
wa4chq
Bingo! And I understand the thang about no cure.....
