alphaomega
What did I break? I hate tracking down these little quirks. I have Firefox 35.0.1 on two machines (both running Arch). Built in pdf reader works in one and not the other. In the one that does not work it prompts me for what to do. I choose open it in Firefox and it comes back with the prompt. I've tried renaming the mimeTypes.rdf file to start fresh and it is still giving me issues. It worked in the previous version. The original mimeTypes.rdf listed two options for pdf files: PDF file Portable Document Format (PDF) The new mimeTypes.rdf lists only one option for pdf files (as does the one that works): Portable Document Format (PDF) I reinstalled Firefox and the issue persists. Anyone have any ideas on what else to check? Thanks in advance. Edited January 30, 2015 by alphaomega
alphaomega
Solved. Sort of. I used mc to take a peek inside the mimeTypes.rdf files. The new file created by Firefox (non working built in pdr reader) had no entries for pdf. The new file created by Firefox (working built in pdf reader) had no entries for pdf. So the built in pdf reader was not working in either now with the new mimeTypes.rdf files. The original mimeTypes.rdf file in Firefox (non working built in pdf reader) had a couple of entries for pdf. The original mimeTypes.rdf file in Firefox (working built in pdf reader) had an entry for pdf. Copied the original mimeTypes.rdf file from the Firefox (working built in pdf reader) to the Firefox (non working built in pdf reader) and now the pdf reader is working in both. Not sure why there are no entries for pdf when Firefox creates a new mimeTypes.rdf file.
securitybreach
Try another pdf reader extension perhaps? I have not use Firefox regularly for a few years now as it started getting a bit buggy. Glad you got it sorted.
alphaomega
Try another pdf reader extension perhaps? I did quickly look at a couple but they were not compatible with Firefox 35. Glad you got it sorted. I did get it working. Just don't understand why the new mimeTypes.rdf created in both do not work. I just get a prompt in which I select open in Firefox and then the prompt pops up again. Thank goodness I rarely have to mess with pdf documents. securitybreach
Well chrome has a built in pdf reader that works flawlessly. I do not read pdfs in the browser normally but I do open them sometimes to glance at them while in the browser.
