alphaomega
Upgraded my machine w/Windows 7 to Windows 10 yesterday with some issues. The system started downloading Windows 10 but when it tried to install It would error out: 0x80072efd This happened multiple times. I researched the error number online without finding much until I came across a mention about that possibly being an issue with systems that dual boot. I do have a dual boot system so I started the system making sure I booted from the drive with Windows 7 on it and the install went through okay. Things appeared to be fine until I rebooted the machine. Then all of the sudden the network would not come up. It camed up as unidentified network. Nothing I tried helped. I tried upgrading the driver for the network card. System indicated I was using the latest driver. Tried resetting the network stack. Unchecking the ipv6 options. Still no joy. Once this happened (the unidentified network issue) I also couldn't get online when I booted Arch/Slackware. The only thing that seemed to help to get me back online was to disconnect the power cord and wait until all power had drained from the system (light on motherboard went out). I knew the network worked just not sure why it wouldn't come up without pulling the power cord. Did some more tests this morning (am on the machine now in Windows 10) and I think I may have gotten it fixed but I'm not sure what these settings do and if they are important. ISP is not using ipv6 yet. So I went into the adapter's advanced settings and modified any settings that were obviously ipv6 related (having no clue what I was doing): Large send offload v2 (ipv6) changed from enabled to disabled. TCP checksum offload (ipv6) changed from RX and TX enabled to disabled. UDP checksum offload (ipv6) changed from RX and TX enabled to disabled. And oddly enough the issue with the unidentified network seems to be gone now. Hopefully things go well from this point out... If anyone has a laymans explanation for what happened I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Now I need to go figure out why the "get Windows 10" icon disappeared from two other machines though I've already reserved my upgrade.
