How to override SuSE's options..

Orignally, I had only Konqueror loaded as web browser. I tried to load Mozilla from SuSE's install and it 'claims' the lates is 1.2.1 (but i'd rather use 1.3 or even 1.4b if possible). so i uninstalled Mozilla 1.2.1 and loaded Mozilla 1.4b the manual way (download .RPM file and click on it to install). SuSE even uses YaST2 to install the new mozilla, but when i go to install/uninstall programs, it still shows just Mozilla 1.2.1 and its unchecked (not installed). I figured out how to add Mozilla to my menu anyways.I heard someone mention a while back there is a way to force YaST2 (SuSE's setup tool) to incorporate other programs I downloaded. does anyone remember the link?

I've never worked with SUSE...Does YaST2, dl the packages from some FTP? IF there is a version conflict, I mean u have 1.4 and if they have 1.2.1 then it would create a mix up I think.. B) :D

Prelude76On your last question: NO, I can´t remember.You can uninstall manualy installed rpm´s by:rpm -e package ( where ¨package¨ is the name of the program+versionnumber ) Bruno

Prelude 76Suse 8.1 and 8.2 have a windows apps capability. Have you experimented with it? The reason I ask is I want to run my satellite modem software(Starband) on a linux PC without having to buy VMWare. I figure it must work since they kept it in their latest distribution.I live in a rural area and this is the only "broadband" available to me.Btw, what I read on linux dial-up leads me to believe that the ISP has to have a PPP server. Am I correct?I do know my wife's local ISP doesn't support linux. I don't have many choices for local numbers where I live.I plan on buying Suse 8.2 anyway, just curious. My short range goal is to finish my "Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition". I don't remember who recommended this book but THANKS! The included Cd-rom Html version of the book was a nice surprise, too.Ken

Btw, what I read on linux dial-up leads me to believe that the ISP has to have a PPP server. Am I correct?
Linux can handle pap and chap protocol for dial up, most isp´s have one of the two, just check with them.
I do know my wife's local ISP doesn't support linux.
This is very common ! BUT, does not mean that you won´t be able to dial-in to her isp !! It just measns they won´t give any answers to questions you have connecting your modem ! ISP´s are very thick-headed, that´s all ! If you want support: turn to us :)I would sugest you start a new thread listing your connection questions and we will try to give you the answers you need for connecting you !:lol: Bruno
