We Have Everything We Need And Should Be Thankful...The Rest Is Just Excuses

We are indeed blessed to have Linux.

Excuse me while I vent for just a minute here. I have been thinking about this for a while now, and tonight I was sitting here jamming music on Amarok, one of the long-forgotten but truly amazing projects to ever come out of the KDE Community. And I thought, how blessed are we?

I mean if there's something you want to do on Linux, you can do it. And if you say you cannot, it's merely an excuse and a rehashing of old ideologies or technical limitations that no longer can possibly hold any merit.

...

PS. my title is a slight twist on a Massive Attack song in case you missed the reference. ;)

It's very nice but i wouldn't call it "blessed". A lot of hard work was put in by many people to make linux what it is today. It is truly a great thing for so many people to collaboratively work on a project without any monetary drive to do and then to give it away for all to use.

I'm sure we all have our own reasons, but I am personally grateful for all the vintage hardware that keeps on keeping on thanks to Linux. All I have to do is look around the house:

  • A classic AMD dual core from 2008 still pumping out Spotify in the basement workroom.
  • My daughter's clapped out old HP laptop with a broken hinge siting on the workbench in case I need to check something on the Internet.
  • My home-built AMD Piledriver desktop that the grandkids had a great time with playing PBS video games yesterday.
  • A lovely old Thinkpad that went to Europe and back and runs Debian like a champion.
  • A memory challenged Toshiba netbook that drove its former owner crazy trying to run Windows 7, but now serves as a testbed for Arch Linux and a whole bunch of lightweight applications.

All of this stuff would likely be in a landfill by now if not for various flavors of Linux.

GNU/Linux is so wonderful for me for one simple reason:

I don't have to depend on Microsoft or Apple products for anything... EVER! :)

. . . I am personally grateful for all the vintage hardware that keeps on keeping on thanks to Linux.
As someone who is able to hold on to older hardware and save some money, I will certainly second that.

I have a lot of gratitude in my life, and that makes my life way better.

Thanks for the reminder- Linux changed my entire home computing

experience for the better. And how! I am so grateful I got to leave

the MS security bozo shuffle- that was eating a tremendous amount

of my precious time! Kudos to all who contributed to such a

wonderful resource!
